So did it to Pradeep who was wrapped up comfortably on his bed and wished he had a few more minutes to enjoy the comfort.
Sandya (Pradeep’s wife) was in the kitchen, multi-tasking (every women is good at it, especially on Monday mornings). The clock struck 7’o clock and she raised her voice from the kitchen, “Pradeep wake up. Its 7’o clock and you still on bed?. Don’t be late and blame me for it.
When Pradeep heard Sandys’s words, he forced himself out of bed and said “ another long weekâ€.
Ya ya I know exactly what you feel right now – trust me we are too many of us sailing on the same boat.
Pradeep was testing the temperature of the water and deciding “do I shower or no?†– from there his thought switch to the list of clients he has to meet through the day for he was working as a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker. His chain of thoughts fell apart when he heard Sandya bang the door loud and say, â€how long do you want for your beauty bath, make it quick. Diya is getting late to schoolâ€.
In no time Pradeep rushed out of the bathroom saying “I am doneâ€.
The breakfast table is another war zone – I must say. Pradeep wanted Poori, Diya wanted Idly and Sandya said “It’s dosa for breakfast†with a stern voice. No one had to say anything more – breakfast was done and all walked in different directions for the next task on the list.
Pradeep said†Bye everyone and ran towards the door – ya he was late as usual. Sandya voiced from the kitchen “Pradeep don’t forget to take your lunch bagâ€.
Pradeep ran back in, grabbed the lunch bag and rushed out, he stopped by the sofa to kiss his daughter on her forehead and said “I love you, will be back home early today and we shall go out for your birthday shoppingâ€.
Diya with a twinkle in her eyes and a smile on her face said “ I love you too dad, see you in the evening. I am excited about the shoppingâ€.
Sandya stood beside the kitchen door watching all this and smiled to herself. When she turned back to go into the kitchen she said “Diya get ready fast – school bus will be here any momentâ€, exactly when the bus arrived.
Diya grabbed her bag and ran out shouting “Bye Ma, see you in the evening, make some delicious snacks for eveningâ€.
Did Diya miss kissing her mother before she left to school? Maybe the kiss was reserved only for the father! Diya was daddy’s little girl.
Now that Pradeep and Diya were out, Sandya sat down on the sofa to relax before she went ahead with other household assignments.
It was half passed 9, when here phone ran, it took a little while for her to find the phone for she had forgotten where she last kept it.
It was Pradeep, all she could think of was “ did he forget something again?â€, he just left home why is he calling me now? but she was not prepared for what she was about to hear.
Sandya answered the call and said, â€Hey Pradeep, did you forget something? It was a female voice at the other end that said, “Are you Sandya? Is Pradeep your husband?â€
With a hesitant voice Sandya said “Yesâ€
The other voice said “I am calling from CMS Hospital, your husband met with an accident and he has been admitted here with us, we found your number in his emergency contacts, hence called to informâ€.
When the call was disconnected Sandya could feel she was getting numb, she was crying but she also knew that she had to act quick.
She rushed to the bedroom grabbed her bag locked the door and started walking as fast as she could. A few step and she stopped, she ran to her friend who stayed next door – told her about the call that she received and said, “ just in case Diya comes home before I do don’t tell her anything, I will talk to herâ€.
When she turned to leave her friend Nitya asked,†do you have the insurance papers on you? Don’t forget – they might come handyâ€.
That is when Sandya remembered that they had taken a health insurance policy a few months before. She rushed back home, grabbed the documents and rushed to the hospital.
Sandya reached the hospital and saw Pradeep lying there, unconscious with bandage all over and blood stains marking the wounds. She could not believe her eyes. The last sight she had of him was when he kissed Diya on her forehead and now here he was in the hospital.
She was in tears all time long when the doctor walked up to her and said†Pradeep is fine now, the accident had caused multiple fractures in his leg and hand, glad he had his helmet on for it saved him from any head injury. Don’t worry you got to be strong†and the doctor left.
The nurses asked Sandya to complete the formalities at the reception desk and wait for further update from the doctor.
Sandya walked towards the payment counter, a little hesitant while the lady at the counter smiled and asked “how may I help you?â€. With a feeble voice Sandya said “ my husband met with an accident and is admitted her, I am her to make paymentsâ€. The lady at the counter said “I am sure your husband will recover soon, so how would you like to make the payment?â€.
Sandya dug into her bag and caught hold of the insurance papers and pointed them towards the lady at the counter and said “ see if this can be of any help please?â€.
The lady went through the paper and said “this can do all the help you want, I will have our insurance team act on this at the earliest so that the funds will be released on time.â€
With great relief Sandya walked away from the counter. She heard from the nurse that Pradeep had gained consciousness. She opened the door and walked in towards Pradeep, holding back her tears she placed her hand on Pradeep’s forehead and said “ everything is fine and the insurance we took managed to cover the expensesâ€.
Pradeep was relieved, he also knew that things were under control now.
Pradeep was in the hospital for a week, when he did show improvement he was allowed to go home.
A bill of one lakh fifty six thousand was handed over, however the couple had to pay only a sum of INR 8000 while the remaining amount was covered through the insurance policy.
Sandya looked at Pradeep and said with a smile, “ I am glad I forced you into getting this insurance policyâ€.
Pradeep said in return “ You know what is best for the familyâ€
With a pause he added “ I love youâ€.
